St John's Primary School is a systemic school catering for children from Kindergarten to Year 6 in the parish of Maitland which is situated in the Hunter Valley only 30 minutes west of Newcastle on the New England Highway.
The school was opened in 1856 and was staffed by the Dominican Sisters from 1867 until 1996. The school in now staffed completely by lay teachers.
The school places particular emphasis on the Key Learning Areas and endeavours to cater for the needs of all children. Currently the school is developing strong links between the Key Learning Areas and Information Technology.
